HELLO EVERYONE!
i'm back and this time i'm going to use full English for this one post.
I've been posting a lot about many stories of my friends and i connect their story with a song.
But this time i'll do something very different, in of hope international people will read it.
this time i'll analyze a song. a Japanese song to be exact.
I've been following a lot of Japanese idols and a lot of their lyrics are very deep and contains a mysterious meaning or story behind it. so in this post, instead of putting a song for someone's story, i'll tell a story of a song.
in my previous post i've talked about one of my favorite KPOP group, which is GOT7. and they are coming back with a sequel of their previous album, FLIGHT LOG : DEPARTURE, and now FLIGHT LOG : TURBULENCE.
they are getting popular each day and currently i've been addicted to their Japanese song. yes, they also debuted in Japan and released a full album titled 'Mori Agatteyo' which means 'Hype' or a phrase saying 'Let's party' in Japanese. one of their ballad song is called 'Stay' it's written by Kenji Kabashima.
here are my analysis:
deatta no wa onaji jikoku
to basho de noru tame no BASU tei
asa, negusete kushi de tokashi
sewashinaku hashiru boku mite kimi wa
warai nagara “ohayou”tte
itte kureta yo ne
ima demo iroasezu oboe teru
That morning, you caught me running in a hurry, fingers trying to untangle the bed hair on my head
With a giggle, you said "Good morning" to me, isn't it?
Until now the color of that memory is still vivid in my mind
Analysis:
The writer used a past tense in the first verse. this refers to a MEMORY of the boy which is the main character of this story, we can also see in the last sentence of this verse, the memory is still in the boy's mind in the present day. the boy is still in school and my guess is this memory is from highschool. why? because mostly Japanese love story or manga or anime happens in high school, plus mostly students in Japan uses the bus or the MRT to school.
Kono kimochi wa nan darou atatakakute
Sonna hi mo atta ne to
Kako ni suru ni wa taisetsu sugita
I felt so close to you even though we were so far apart
What could this feeling be? It's so warm
Such a day like that also existed, didn't it?
That truth was too precious to belong to the past
Analysis:
'even though we're so far apart'
the first thing that came into my mind is that the female character which is the love interest of the boy went to another country, and the boy stayed and wait for her. but then "The truth was too precious to belong to the past" this sentence means that they already broke up. so the current analysis is they broke up because the girl is in another or a different country far from the boy.
Toki ga tomatte shimaeba ii noni
Omoi doori ni wa ikanakute nando mo naita boku wa
I'll be right here sono mama
Otona ni natte shimau keredomo
Koukai ga nai to chikaeba sore de ii no kana?
Boku wa Finding the life, now...
How great it would be if time stopped flowing
Even though the tears have fallen many times against my will, still
I'll be right here, just like that
Even though we will then all become adults
Would it be alright if we vowed to leave no regret behind?
I am finding the life, now...Analysis:
the boy is waiting for the girl and he really missed the girl. he was so sad that she left. The boy kept growing older as an adult and he missed the times he have spent with the girl. this refrain part is like a conversation of the boy to the girl, telling her that he'll stay there and he's continuing his life great.
Nani ga kanashikute, nani ga munashii toka dou demo ii koto dake
Oboeteru no wa naze darou
Tada kimi ga suki datta kara to
Ii hirakasetemo mada tarinai you de
Ano goro no mama no heya de nemuru
I wonder why I hold on to those that much
"It's because I loved you"
As if nothing was ever enough even though I bring myself to tell you that
I fall in a slumber amidst the room of that eternal moment
Analysis:
okay, now the second verse are the fun part because it gets intense.
the boy missed the girl that much..? he even said that his heart is sad and empty and everything is only in his memories, yet he couldn't let her go, and he really couldn't forget "THAT ETERNAL MOMENT" what was the moment? what is it that made the boy missed that moment so much? now here is the answer
Kimi no egao wa mou me no mae ni nai
Kotoshi mo mata boku wa
Sou, kimi no koto wo omoi kaeshite shimau yo
Your smile is no longer in front of my eyes
Yet this year, I am once again
That's right, once again my thoughts are drifting back to you
Analysis:
"Your smile is no longer in my eyes"
he actually still can see her smile when she came back from another country.
"Once again my thoughts are drifting back to you"
he thinks of the girl again...
my analysis: the girl died. BOOM!
Sore sura yuenai boku no kokoro wa
Keshite machigai janai keredomo kashikoku mo nai darou
I'll see you when I see you
Konna owari ja nakucha dame nano?
Mou ichido ano hi ano basho de matsu ano kimi ni
Boku wa I wanna see you
Does it have to come to an end this way no matter what?
Just one more time, to the you that are waiting at that place, on that day
I wanna see you
Analysis:
"I'll see you when i see you"
the boy will see the girl he loves when his time comes (that is when he also will die)
"Does it have to come to and end this way"
THIS WAY? the girl died, that's why he said 'This Way' it's not a usual way. and another 'I wanna see you' made it more clear that the girl is gone. and "Waiting at that place, on that day" ...? LET'S REWIND!
in the first verse, the boy told about how he missed seeing the girl in the bus stop in the morning before going to school. my analysis..? the girl died in an accident. a car or a bus accident, either way it happened on the streets and the boy had no time to save her.
Sasai na koto demo sou, kimi to wakachi aeta no naraba
Sore ijou nani mo iranakattan da
Aitai yo to nando mo negatta noni mou kikoenai no?
Arubamu ni mo "sayonara" wo ienai mama...
Trivial stories like encounters with someone in every day life
That's right, if I could even share with you even littlest things like that
I wouldn't need anything else better
Am I not be heard anymore, despite how many times "I wanna see you" has been chanted in my wishes?
Even the "Farewell" is also left unsaid in the album...

Even the "Farewell" is also left unsaid in the album...
Analysis:
He regret that he didn't do stuff that he wants to do with the girl before she died, 'I wouldn't need anything else better' that's because it's impossible to bring the girl back. in Japan, people often prays to talk with the lost ones. and here, the boy is praying and asking to see her again. why? because once again my premise is getting stronger that the girl died.
and why does the boy sounds so desperate to see the girl again? because... "Even the farewell is also left unsaid in the album" The boy didn't get to say anything, not even a goodbye to the girl. it can be because they fought with each other and the girl left and then accident happen or the boy haven't confess his feelings to the girl, or he did confess but the girl never gave him her answer.
pretty creepy huh?
that is a Japanese song so I'm not that shock, i've heard of many mysterious story behind a Japanese song, and the lyric writer are usually very poetic. the song is really good, and it's actually very touching because the boy is so loyal. and ofc, GOT7 sang it very well in live concert.
either way, this is MY OPINION and MY ANALYSIS, it might not be correct, but it's what i think it is. i hope you enjoy! and don't forget to listen to the other songs in the album! it's really great and i've bought it during my holiday in Japan.
look how happy my face is /insert dark moon emoji here/
